Marrakech – AtlantaSanad Assurance has launched Morocco’s first insurance coverage specifically for electric scooter riders. Announced on Wednesday, this new offering aims to enhance safety for both riders and third parties while supporting the growth of sustainable urban transportation options.
The insurance covers material and bodily damages to others and includes additional rider protection, such as medical, surgical, and hospitalization expenses. It also provides financial support in the event of death or permanent disability due to an accident.
Targeting individuals using electric scooters or draisines with speeds not exceeding 25 km/h, the insurance is available in multiple packages. These range from basic Civil Liability coverage to more comprehensive options that include Defense and Recourse guarantees as well as Rider Protection, catering to different user needs.
This launch comes at a time when electric scooters are becoming more common in major Moroccan cities. It aligns with AtlantaSanad’s strategy to focus on digitalization, customer-centric service, and innovation, making insurance more accessible and responsive to the needs of modern clients.
The timing is particularly significant as Morocco moves toward regulating electric scooter use. The National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) recently announced a forthcoming decree to establish clear rules for electric scooter usage. The new regulations will define infractions, circulation conditions, locations, and required equipment for riders.
NARSA Director Benacer Boulaajoul emphasized that the legal framework for scooters did not exist before 2010, requiring updates to legislation in response to the rise of new urban transport methods. The regulatory framework is still evolving, with two additional decrees expected soon, alongside ministerial decisions concerning vehicle registration and license plates.
The Government Council also approved a draft law on June 19, amending the Highway Code to introduce new fines and classifications for vehicles. This draft law introduces the concept of the “personal motor displacement vehicle,” a single-place device without a seat, equipped with handlebars, and speeds between 6 and 25 km/h.
Formed in 2020 through the merger of Atlanta and Sanad under the Holmarcom Group, AtlantaSanad Assurance brings over a century of expertise and more than 600 qualified employees. The company offers a wide range of life and non-life insurance products across Morocco’s 12 regions, supported by a network of over 360 exclusive agents and 300 brokerage partners.
In September, AtlantaSanad also launched Assia, Morocco’s first AI insurance assistant, designed to offer 24/7 customer support. Assia helps with various tasks, including auto accident claims, policy explanations, and insurance product advice.
