Rabat – Bangladesh has recently approved proposals to import fresh batches of fertilizers from Morocco to ensure a successful agricultural season.
According to a report by Bangladesh’s BSS News agency earlier this week, the government has greenlit five separate proposals to import 140,000 metric tons of fertilizers, along with 10,000 metric tons of phosphoric acid. This move is aimed at securing a smooth supply of agricultural inputs ahead of the next cultivation season.
Both Morocco and Canada will supply the fertilizers to Bangladesh. Bangladesh Chemical Industries (BCIC) and the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) will handle the imports, following operational agreements with the ministries of agriculture and industry.
As part of this deal, BADC will import approximately 30,000 metric tons of TSP fertilizers from Morocco’s OCP Nutricrops, at a price of $579 per metric ton. This will be the fifth batch of fertilizers imported from OCP Nutricrops under an ongoing agreement with Morocco.
Additionally, another proposal includes the procurement of 40,000 metric tons of DAP fertilizer from the same supplier, at a cost of $778.33 per ton.
This new shipment comes months after OCP Nutricrops announced plans to supply 1.1 million tons of fertilizers to Bangladesh between 2025 and 2026. OCP Nutricrops, a subsidiary of OCP Group, signed an agreement with BADC during a recent visit by a Bangladeshi delegation to Morocco.
Youssef El Bari, CEO of OCP Nutricrops, emphasized that this partnership strengthens a “long-term strategic relationship” between the two nations. He also highlighted the potential for new collaborations in research, training, and innovation.
BADC Chairman Ruhul Amin Khan expressed similar sentiments, thanking OCP and Morocco for their ongoing support of Bangladesh’s agricultural development. “We are very optimistic about strengthening our cooperation in various sectors of Bangladeshi agriculture,” Khan said, highlighting the role of innovation, technology, and training.
OCP Nutricrops, part of the OCP Group, is committed to improving food security in Morocco and the wider region. Their farmer-centric approach focuses on sustainable farming practices that enhance soil health, crop yields, and long-term resilience. The company continues to invest in science, research, and development to advance sustainable agriculture and benefit both businesses and communities.
