The pilot, scheduled for a return flight to Gatwick over 36 hours later, was grounded after the airline received complaints. The EasyJet captain arrived at the Melia Dunas Beach Resort in Cape Verde on 4 August and began drinking. Early the next morning, hotel guests reported seeing him intoxicated, naked, and wandering through the hotel’s reception, gym, and spa. An anonymous source revealed that the pilot reeked of alcohol. Scheduled to fly back to Gatwick on 6 August, he was removed from duty after the airline was notified. EasyJet immediately grounded him, prioritizing the safety of passengers and crew, and an investigation was launched.
