The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced new dates for regional conferences to elect delegates for non-unionized workers, older persons, and national youth committees as part of preparations for Uganda’s 2025/2026 general elections. The adjustments follow consultations with stakeholders and aim to ensure smooth, inclusive participation across all regions.

Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, EC Chairperson, confirmed that the election of Regional Non-Unionized Workers’ Delegates, initially set for August 25, will now take place on Monday, September 1, 2025, across the Central, Eastern, Northern, and Western regions. Similarly, the conferences for Older Persons’ Delegates have been moved to Friday, September 26, while the National Youth Committees elections will now run from October 1–3, 2025.

The EC emphasized that these exercises are crucial for building representative structures that reflect Uganda’s commitment to inclusive democracy. “These elections will ensure proper representation of non-unionized workers, older persons, and the youth in the national governance framework,” the Commission stated.

The rescheduling aligns with the broader roadmap for the 2026 general elections, reinforcing the EC’s pledge to uphold regular, free, and fair elections. Stakeholders and citizens are encouraged to engage actively in the updated schedule to strengthen participation and democratic processes across the country.
