Masaka, Uganda | The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has lauded the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) for their exceptional discipline, precision, and teamwork during the 17th edition of the CDF Cup, which concluded successfully in Masaka.
In a thrilling finale, the Special Forces Command (SFC) football team defeated 3 Division to claim the coveted trophy, showcasing skill, strategy, and resilience on the field.
The closing ceremony drew senior military and civilian leaders, including Deputy Chief of Defence Forces (DCDF) Lt Gen Sam Okiding, division commanders, service chiefs, and former Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi.
Speaking at the event, Gen Kainerugaba highlighted the significance of such competitions in reinforcing military values and camaraderie.
“What we have witnessed goes beyond mere games; it is a vivid demonstration of our military ethos in action. The skill, composure under pressure, and mastery displayed here reflect the very essence of the UPDF,” he stated.
Lt Gen Okiding praised the CDF for his steadfast commitment to fostering unity and operational readiness within the force. “The precision observed on the shooting range showed that in real combat, only the most disciplined would prevail,” he noted.
Maj Gen Deus Sande, Host Division Commander, expressed gratitude to the CDF for his presence and for honoring the people of Masaka. Brig Gen Richard Karemire, Joint Staff Formal Education, Sports, and Culture, attributed the event’s success to the CDF’s unwavering support.
The two-week event, held at Masaka Senior Secondary School, featured competitions in football, netball, and range shooting. Beyond entertainment, these activities are designed to enhance combat readiness and strengthen bonds across the UPDF.
Gen Kainerugaba congratulated all participants, emphasizing that within the UPDF family, “there are no losers.” He urged soldiers to carry the lessons of discipline, precision, and teamwork into their national duties.
