The National Communications Authority (NCA) of Ghana and the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC) have deepened their partnership through a strategic benchmarking visit focused on advancing broadcasting reforms. Led by Mr. Rodney Thadeus Mbuya from Tanzania’s Ministry of Information, Culture, Art and Sports, the three-member delegation visited the NCA Tower in Accra to study Ghana’s approach to funding and supporting its state broadcaster. This engagement comes at a time when rapid technological shifts and evolving media consumption patterns are challenging the sustainability and relevance of public service broadcasting across Africa.
During the visit, NCA officials shared comprehensive insights into their regulatory framework, including licensing procedures, spectrum management, and broadcast monitoring systems. These discussions provided the Tanzanian delegation with practical knowledge on how Ghana fosters a competitive and transparent broadcasting environment. The exchange underscored the importance of regional collaboration in addressing common challenges such as digital migration, content regulation, and the need to build public trust in national media institutions.
The Tanzanian team included senior officials responsible for planning, investment, and legal affairs, reflecting a holistic approach to reform. Their interactions with NCA counterparts emphasized a shared commitment to enhancing innovation, accountability, and institutional capacity in the broadcasting sector. Both parties recognized the value of continued cooperation, capacity-building initiatives, and the sharing of best practices to strengthen public broadcasting systems and ensure they remain responsive to the needs of diverse audiences.
As African nations navigate the complexities of media modernization, partnerships like the one between NCA and TBC serve as a blueprint for sustainable reform and regional solidarity. By fostering mutual learning and technical exchange, this collaboration not only supports national development goals but also contributes to a more resilient and inclusive communications landscape across the continent.
