Ghanaian journalist Godwin Asediba has been named the winner of the 2025 BBC News Komla Dumor Award, marking a decade since the award’s inception. This prestigious recognition will see Godwin spend three months with BBC News in London, gaining hands-on experience across television, radio, and digital platforms while benefiting from mentorship and professional development opportunities.

The award celebrates exceptional African journalistic talent and honours the legacy of Komla Dumor, the Ghanaian broadcaster renowned for his authentic storytelling and fearless reporting of African stories. Godwin Asediba, an investigative journalist and news anchor with TV3 and 3FM in Ghana, has been recognized for his in-depth reporting on public health, education, labour rights, social protection, and environmental issues, work that amplifies the voices of marginalized communities.

In his statement, Godwin emphasized the significance of the award beyond personal achievement. “The Komla Dumor Award is more than a personal milestone; it is a call to carry forward the spirit of journalism that informs, inspires and transforms,” he said. “This recognition strengthens my resolve to shine a light on issues that matter and to amplify the voices that too often go unheard.”

Over the past decade, the Komla Dumor Award has nurtured a remarkable roster of African journalists, including Waihiga Mwaura, Nancy Kacungira, Victoria Rubadiri, Solomon Serwanjja, Paa Kwesi Asare, and Rukia Bulle, who have gone on to make a significant impact across local and international media. Juliet Njeri, BBC Regional Director for Africa, praised the award’s role in upholding Komla Dumor’s legacy: “This 10th anniversary stands as a powerful testament to Komla Dumor’s enduring legacy: his passion for bold, authentic storytelling and championing African voices lives on.”

With this award, Godwin Asediba joins a lineage of journalists committed to telling Africa’s stories with depth, integrity, and courage. His journey reflects the importance of supporting African media talent, ensuring that the continent’s narratives continue to reach global audiences.
