Kampala, Uganda – For thousands of homes, businesses, and institutions in Kampala, Wakiso, and Mpigi, Friday will be a day without electricity. The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has confirmed a full-day power shutdown affecting more than 70 locations.
From 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on August 8, 2025, entire neighborhoods including Mengo Hospital, Namirembe Cathedral, Ndejje University, Nateete, Kyengera, Buddo, Mpigi, Buloba, and Buyala will go dark as engineers carry out critical maintenance at the Mutundwe Substation.
The company says the work is necessary to improve power stability and reliability in the central region.
“We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but these upgrades are essential for long-term service improvement,” said Jonan Kiiza, Head of Corporate and Stakeholder Affairs.
Households and businesses are urged to prepare early charge devices, unplug electronics, and adjust work schedules to minimize disruption.
While the day may bring some challenges, UEDCL assures customers that the result will be a stronger, more reliable electricity supply in the months ahead.
