Nigeria is taking a bold step toward accelerating digital transformation at the state level through a strategic partnership between the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF). In a landmark meeting held in Abuja in October 2025, NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, emphasized the importance of extending digital initiatives beyond federal institutions to state and local governments. He underscored that NITDA’s mandate is national in scope and that inclusive digital growth requires active collaboration across all tiers of governance to ensure that every Nigerian can participate meaningfully in the digital economy.

The partnership aims to embed digital literacy, innovation, and infrastructure development into state-level governance frameworks. One of the key initiatives discussed was the “Digital Literacy for All” (DL4ALL) program, which seeks to integrate digital education into school curricula nationwide. This program is designed to equip millions of Nigerians, especially youth and underserved populations, with essential digital skills that are increasingly vital in a technology-driven global economy. The NGF, represented by its Director-General, Dr. Abdulateef Shittu, pledged full support for the initiative, recognizing the transformative potential of digital tools in enhancing public service delivery, economic resilience, and citizen engagement.

By aligning federal and state efforts, the NITDA–NGF collaboration seeks to bridge regional disparities in digital access and foster inclusive growth across Nigeria’s 36 states. The partnership will establish joint working groups to monitor progress, share best practices, and tailor implementation strategies to local needs. These efforts are expected to improve transparency, stimulate innovation, and create new opportunities for entrepreneurship and job creation, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

This initiative marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward a digitally empowered society. It reflects a shared vision to harness technology for governance, education, and economic development, while building a robust digital ecosystem that supports long-term national progress. As the partnership unfolds, stakeholders anticipate measurable improvements in digital infrastructure, policy coordination, and the overall quality of life for citizens across the country.
