Seventeen-year-old Nafisa Abdullah Aminu from Yobe State has captured international attention after being named the world’s best in English Language Skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom.

Representing Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), Nafisa outperformed over 20,000 students from 69 countries—an extraordinary feat that places her among the brightest young minds globally. Her victory is being celebrated as not just personal triumph, but a powerful symbol of Nigeria’s academic promise on the world stage.

The TeenEagle competition is a highly respected international event that assesses English proficiency, critical thinking, and communication skills. It draws students from across the globe, including many from native English-speaking nations making Nafisa’s win even more remarkable.

According to a statement by her family, Nafisa’s success was built on a foundation of “dedication, discipline, and the enabling support of the Yobe State government.” Her father, Hassan Salifu, praised Governor Mai Mala Buni for fostering an environment that allows young minds to thrive, saying his leadership had "brought international honour to our state and nation."

Nafisa’s triumph over competitors from countries where English is the first language has sparked widespread celebration in Yobe and beyond. Her family has extended gratitude to her teachers at NTIC and to the state for its investments in education, crediting both for helping unlock her potential.

The victory has ignited calls for national recognition, with growing voices urging the government to bestow state and federal honours on the young champion. Many see Nafisa as a beacon of what is possible when Nigerian talent receives proper nurturing.

“She has made our country proud, proving that Nigerian students, when given the right tools, can rise above even the most competitive global platforms,” said one proud relative. “Her win challenges old assumptions and shows that our youth are capable of greatness on any stage.”

Nafisa’s historic achievement not only brings honour to Nigeria but also reinforces the transformative power of education. Her story is already inspiring a new generation of students who now believe they, too, can reach global heights.
