Kampala, Uganda | The National Unity Platform (NUP) has officially submitted the required signatures to endorse party leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, for the 2026 presidential election in Uganda.

On Wednesday, NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya presented the endorsement documents at the Electoral Commission (EC) headquarters in Kampala. Rubongoya confirmed that the party had collected signatures from across the country, exceeding the legal threshold set by the EC.

“We are very grateful to the many citizens who defied fear and intimidation to endorse this change,” Rubongoya stated. “We have submitted over and above the required number of signatures.”

Under Uganda’s electoral guidelines, a presidential aspirant must secure endorsements from registered voters in at least two-thirds of the country's districts to qualify for nomination.

This move brings NUP a significant step closer to the formal nomination process. According to the Electoral Commission, presidential nominations are scheduled for September 23–24, 2025, followed by parliamentary nominations on October 15–16, 2025. The general election is expected in early 2026.

Bobi Wine, a former musician-turned-politician, first ran for president in 2021 against longtime incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, who has ruled Uganda since 1986. He is widely anticipated to challenge Museveni again in what could be one of the most closely watched political contests in Uganda's recent history.
