Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan held high‑level bilateral talks in Dar es Salaam, focusing on strengthening cooperation between their neighboring East African states.
The discussions covered key areas of mutual interest, including energy, trade, infrastructure development and regional security. Both leaders reviewed progress on major joint projects, such as the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) a landmark 1,500‑kilometre pipeline linking Uganda’s oil fields to the Tanzanian port of Tanga, expected to begin transporting crude oil later this year.
In addition to energy cooperation, the talks addressed plans to improve transport infrastructure, expand rail connectivity, enhance access to ports, and remove non‑tariff barriers that affect trade between the two countries. Both leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to regional peace and security efforts, noting that stability in one nation contributes to prosperity across the broader Great Lakes region.
President Museveni described the visit as productive, and President Samia highlighted the long‑standing unneighborly ties between Uganda and Tanzania. The meeting came shortly after Museveni’s re‑election in Uganda’s general election, marking his first foreign visit in that capacity.
Overall, the talks underscored a shared vision of deepening bilateral relations and accelerating implementation of strategic infrastructure and economic projects that benefit both countries.
