KAMPALA, UGANDA | Uganda’s women’s cricket team extended their dominance over Canada with an 18-run victory at the Lugogo Cricket Oval on Thursday, taking a commanding 3-0 lead in the 2025 Victoria Series.
Batting first, Uganda posted 100/6 in their 20 overs, with standout performances from Stephani Nampiina (24), Kevin Awino (21), and captain Janet Mbabazi (20). Canada’s chase faltered, collapsing at 82 runs in 18.3 overs despite a resilient 28 from their captain Amarpal Kaur. Vandana Mahajan and Terisha Lavia contributed 17 and 12 runs respectively, but it wasn’t enough to challenge the hosts.
“It was a challenging game, but we managed to put up a competitive total and held on to win,” said Uganda captain Mbabazi.
Canada captain Zeel Patel acknowledged the team’s struggle but stressed the importance of learning from the series. “These matches are helping us improve as we face a higher-ranked side,” Patel said.
Uganda is using the Victoria Series as key preparation for the ICC Women’s Emerging Trophy in Thailand next month.
