Uganda’s Parliament Speaker, Anita Annet Among, has called on African legislators to unite in advocating for the continent’s priorities on the international stage. Speaking at a recent African parliamentary forum, she urged lawmakers to strengthen collaboration, defend African values, and champion regional development initiatives.
Speaker Among emphasized the importance of pan-African legislative cooperation, noting that coordinated parliamentary action can influence policy decisions on trade, security, health, and climate change. She encouraged MPs to share best practices, develop joint strategies, and push for legislation that benefits African citizens collectively.
The forum also addressed challenges facing African governance, including youth unemployment, corruption, and regional security threats, highlighting the role of legislators in crafting policies that respond effectively to these issues. Speaker Among’s call comes amid ongoing efforts to enhance the effectiveness of continental bodies and ensure that African voices are more influential in global decision-making forums.
Lawmakers attending the event committed to strengthening parliamentary networks across the continent and pledged to work together to promote sustainable development and continental unity, reinforcing Africa’s collective agenda in both regional and international arenas.
