The United States has deployed drones alongside military personnel to Nigeria to enhance intelligence gathering and support training efforts in the fight against insurgency. The move is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to combat armed groups operating בעיקר in the country’s northern regions.

US officials say the deployment focuses on surveillance and intelligence-sharing rather than direct combat operations. The drones are expected to improve real-time monitoring of insurgent movements, while American personnel will assist in training Nigerian forces on modern counterinsurgency tactics and the use of advanced technology.

Security analysts note that the collaboration reflects growing international support for Nigeria’s efforts to tackle insurgency, particularly from extremist groups that have destabilized parts of the region. However, the presence of foreign military assets may also raise concerns about sovereignty and the long-term role of external partners in domestic security operations.
