The Catholic Diocese of Solwezi in Zambia has embraced a global spiritual initiative titled “A Million Children Praying the Rosary,” aimed at fostering peace and unity through the prayers of young believers. Spearheaded by the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS), the campaign was launched during a special Mass held at St. Daniel Cathedral Parish on the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary. The event brought together children, clergy, teachers, and lay faithful in a vibrant celebration of faith, with the central message that the prayers of children hold immense power to transform the world.
Fr. Wilbroad Musonda, the Diocesan Director of PMS, led the liturgical celebration and emphasized the significance of involving children in spiritual acts that promote global harmony. He highlighted the vision behind the initiative, inspired by the words of St. Padre Pio: “When one million children pray the Rosary, the world will change.” This belief has galvanized Catholic communities worldwide to mobilize children in prayer, reinforcing the idea that even the youngest voices can contribute meaningfully to peacebuilding efforts.
The Solwezi Diocese’s participation reflects a broader commitment to nurturing the spiritual lives of children and encouraging them to be agents of compassion and reconciliation. During the event, children were not only guided in praying the Rosary but also encouraged to reflect on values such as forgiveness, empathy, and unity. The campaign serves as a reminder of the Church’s role in shaping the moral and spiritual foundation of future generations, especially in regions facing social and economic challenges.
By joining this global movement, the Diocese of Solwezi has positioned itself as a beacon of hope and faith, demonstrating how local communities can contribute to a worldwide call for peace. The initiative has resonated deeply with participants, many of whom expressed a renewed sense of purpose and connection to the broader mission of the Church. As children across Zambia and beyond continue to raise their voices in prayer, the campaign stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith and the transformative potential of collective spiritual action.
